I grew up on a farm near Streaky Bay so I have seen first hand how difficult it can be for people faced with cancer in isolated areas. For this reason I decided to do my M. Psych (Clin)/ PhD research on the supportive care needs of rural cancer patients and have spent the past 18 months developing the Country Cancer Support website. Fortunately, I’ve had some wonderful people help with the process. In particular, it has been a great honour that several inspiring cancer patients and carers from across South Australia (including Broken Hill) have given up their time and energy to help with this project. The collaboration between various organisations (Country Health SA, Cancer Council SA, Spencer Gulf Rural Health School and The University of Adelaide) has also been encouraging. I am really proud of what we’ve done, have found it to be an interesting and rewarding journey and hope this website is of benefit to you.
