3. What are “psychosocial interventions”?

Psychosocial interventions and services are those designed to optimise psychological, physical, social, emotional and spiritual wellbeing  [11]. They seek to address issues such as:

  • distress
  • anxiety
  • depression
  • fear of death
  • adapting and coping
  • social support
  • communication with the family
  • sexuality
  • self-esteem
  • body image
  • side effects of treatment
  • pain
  • sleep disturbance
  • work-related issues
